Land Data Awards NLIS Channel Licence to On Point Data

01 February 2024

Land Data, the National Land Information Service (NLIS) regulator, has awarded an NLIS channel licence to On Point Data Ltd, an organisation providing conveyancing and search solutions nationwide. The new licence gives On Point Data and their conveyancing clients access to official conveyancing search data, direct from every Local Authority in England and Wales, Thames Water, the Coal Authority and HM Land Registry.

The NLIS network remains the largest aggregator of official searches, accounting for approximately 40% of the official searches market. It is also the only regulated searches portal in the UK, with total focus on maintaining the highest standards of data security, assurance and provenance.

Fiona Barron, Land Data Chief Executive said: NLIS continues to grow year on year and is an essential part of the UK’s national data infrastructure, delivering authoritative searches to thousands of conveyancing solicitors. With almost 27 million searches completed since NLIS’ launch in 2001, the platform remains one of the industry’s most established and trusted entities. I look forward to a long-term successful relationship with On Point Data who share our vision of a data-driven home buying and selling market, powered by official searches.”

In a joint statement, Jeremy Dorkins and Kevin Johnson, On Point Data Co-Founders said: “As a partnership-oriented business, intent on delivering the highest standards of service and support to our customers, our ability to work seamlessly through NLIS with councils is a major step forward for On Point Data and underlines our status in the sector. The level of data provenance, as sourced directly from and interpreted by the Local Authority, and the security this delivers is extremely important for us and our clients. We are delighted to be working with the NLIS and Land Data teams and, wherever possible, we will continue to seek efficiencies to enable properties to be bought and sold with minimal fuss and maximum speed.”

NLIS Hub Director Nick Dyoss added: Security and reliability remain our priority in delivering our trusted services that our customers expect and rely upon every day. The new contract offers On Point Data customers a quick, automated payment system, an experienced helpdesk and a fully regulated service where turnaround times are constantly monitored.”

Land Data is inviting all companies involved in the property searches market to apply for a NLIS Channel licence to operate as a regulated provider of official search data. Interested parties should contact NewChannels@land-data.org.uk.

Notes to Editors

  • The National Land Information Service (NLIS) was established in 2001 and is the only government-approved and regulated electronic land and property searches portal in the market. By using an NLIS licensed channel to order official search data, solicitors benefit from a faster, more efficient service, safe in the knowledge that the data is authoritative, fully indemnified and that the transaction has been conducted through a secure, protected and regulated electronic document and payment infrastructure. NLIS is the only wholly electronic service for ordering and receiving searches covering every local authority in England and Wales, Land Registry, the Coal Authority and other sources of land and property information.
  • On Point Data becomes the 5th licensed channel to join the NLIS network alongside existing channels SearchFlow, Index Property Information, PoweredbyPie (PIE) and X-Press Legal Services.
