1992 | NLIS was a central theme of the government's Citizens Charter White Paper |
1998 | A 'proof of concept' pilot took place in Bristol. As a result, the government granted funding of £2.3m to develop the project further, lead by a partnership between HMLR (Land Registry) and the IDeA (Improvement & Development Agency) |
1999 | LGIH (Local Government Information House) formed as the contracting body for the infrastructure licences |
2000 | A 'Hub' licence was awarded to MacDonald, Dettwiler & Associates Ltd and Channel licences were awarded to TM Search, MDA Transaction Online and SearchFlow |
2001 | NLIS went live in February 2001, processing around 1000 searches per week via connections to over 40 local authorities |
2003 | NLIS passed the one million searches barrier |
2006 | The NLIS project became independent of the government and Land Data, a Community Interest Company was created in order to manage it |
