Conveyancers burn the midnight oil using NLIS
07.12.07A recent survey carried out by The Council for the National Land Information Service (C-NLIS) has revealed some interesting working patterns amongst solicitors and conveyancers who order searches electronically using the National Land Information Service (NLIS).
Analysing the frequency of electronic searches carried out via the electronic hub over a 2 month period, C-NLIS discovered that Tuesday was the most popular day for requesting property searches, when on average 20% more searches were put through. The analysis also revealed that the peak time for requesting data from NLIS was between 11am and 12 noon, with a very evident lull between 12.30pm and 2.00pm. Activity does pick up again after lunch, but not at the same level as the morning's business.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the lightest weekday for property search requests is Friday, with only a handful of requests carried out over the lunch time period.
A few solicitors have been taking advantage of the NLIS tracking facility and logged on during the small hours mid-week and at the weekend from home, to check the progress of their conveyance.
With an electronic search from NLIS, solicitors get data in a matter of minutes/days straight to the desk top. Since NLIS launched in 2001 with just 5,121 CON29 searches in its first year, business has increased by 8,000% with around 420,000 CON29 electronic searches conducted via the hub in 2006.
