NLIS

The National Land Information Service (NLIS) was one of the first electronic service delivery initiatives executed as part of the Central/Local Information Age Concordat. It was designed to provide users with easy and convenient access to land and property information held by local authorities, central government and other organisations who provide official sources of land and property data.
Today, NLIS offers the highest standards of property search accessibility and access to the conveyancing market and is making rapid progress towards meeting government e-delivery targets for local authorities.
NLIS provides its services on behalf of local authorities by way of a “Hub” and “Channel” model, operating as a one-stop-shop. This has huge benefits to both the user, data provider and ultimately the consumer. It saves local authorities and other organisations from developing and running their own individual access portals and provides the marketplace with a regulated, secure and national provider.
NLIS users can access electronic information from a range of data providers including, local authorities, national parks, Land Registry, the Coal Authority, the Environment Agency and water companies.
Rather than conveyancers having to wait for hard copies of search information using NLIS they are able to not only benefit from a faster and more efficient service but are also safe in the knowledge that the searches are authoritative and fully comprehensive.
Over 18 million NLIS searches have been carried out since 2001.
